It’s a massive honour to get any medal, let alone as gold but to take out best in the category in the only 2 awards this brand new gin has entered is unbelievable. Amazing to be producing amazing award winning gin in such a small batch artisan way, totally handmade.

It was also amazing to see Yuzu’s big brother, Troppo Top End Gin taking out a silver medal as well.

Now, time to start experimenting again.

See you at the bar

Troppo Yuzu Gin Wins at Australian Distilled Spirit Awards

At the Melbourne Royal Australia Distilled Spirit Awards, our Troppo Yuzu gin took at the trophy for best Australian Contemporary Gin. I such an honour & it’s still sinking in for us. If you told us 5 years ago we would win a trophy at ADSA, it would have been in the ambitions, but definitely not something that was just going to happen.

As soon as Yuzu came off the still, I knew we had something really special, and honestly the thanks needs to go to a mate Joe Dunham from Simon George and Sons, dropped me around a ctn of Yuzu, from Mountain Yuzu in Victoria to play with.

I had not intentions of distilling them, my head was straight aways a cocktails syrup for tequila cocktails, but as soon as I smelt the aroma from the oils of these Yuzu, I didn’t really have a choice, I had to distill them. We were absolutely led by the produce which we are really proud of. Work with great produce and the rest will follow.

A massive thank you to the Melbourne Royal team for hosting the Australian Distilled Spirit Awards and to all the judges who dedicate their time to see the industry grow and develop.

For a small little side hustle (very early mornings are had weekly) micro distillery, working out of @snapper.rocks, we have been recognised with some pretty awesome awards, both nationally and internationally, but this one is absolutely right up there.

Time for a beverage we think.🍸.

Northern Distilling

It’s easy to fall in love with your own neck of the world, when you live in the one of most unique and isolated regions of the world.  The Top End of Australia is what inspires us. Good Spirits Distilling Co is our way of bringing our flavours and aromas of the Top End to the rest of Australia and to the world.

Husband and wife team, David and Kellie Robinson, have been long time advocates of our wonderful local flora and fauna.  We have an amazing food culture, built on our populations diversity, tropical climate and incredible native ingredients in the NT.

Gone Troppo?

After years owning and running local restaurants and bars, creating and layering flavours, both in drinks and food, there was always one element we never had control of.  The element that is the most important ingredient in cocktails, the base spirit.  Not content with what was out there; we created our own, to showcase what we see as our incredible flavours.

Troppo was our first product.

Inspired by the aromas and produce of our local markets, this Top End Dry Gin, draws it flavour from a combination of both traditional and local botanicals. This delicious spirit and quirky spirit is truly a reflection of our Tropical ‘Troppo’ Top End.

Our Botanicals

Inspired by our native, indigenous & local foods, many of which, you’ve may have never tried before.  Depending on the season, some interesting ingredients include green plum, cocky apples, wild grape, native passionfruit, red bush apples, rosella, Kakadu plums (complete with 50 times the amount of vitamin C of oranges), waterlillies, cluster figs, cordial berry, sugar bag honey, and wild beans and nuts.

Add these to our local agricultural produce, things like lemongrass, kaffir lime, lime, ruby grapefruit, watermelons, turmeric, ginger, coconut,  purple dragon fruit, pandan leaf, guava, pineapple & mango to name a few.

Things get pretty interesting.
